The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, on Monday said that candidates who sat for the 2019 UTME should not expect results earlier than Wednesday. According to JAMB, it is yet to release results but would do so within the week. This was made know by JAMB’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja. According to him, results would be released officially “anytime” within the week. He made this known so as to prevent candidates from expecting results from the first two days of the week because the board has yet to conclude the process of the exercise. Benjamin said, “We will not release it today, Monday; and we will not release it tomorrow, Tuesday. “What we said was anytime within this week. The National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, has denied rumors that it has increased the monthly allowance of corpers from N19,800 to N31,800. Disregarding the rumors as fake news, a Deputy Director at the NYSC headquarters Abuja, Eddy Megwa, said the Scheme is yet to be informed by the Federal Government of any increases in the stipends of serving corps members. According to him, if the Federal government which pays corpers directly were to increase the allowance, it wouldn’t notify the scheme. “The NYSC does not pay corps members any sum of money directly as stipends but the federal government does. “Until the government is ready to implement the N30,000 minimum wage, we cannot say what corps members will earn for their service to the nation. “Disregard any figure you find making the rounds on social media. When the federal government is ready, it will inform NYSC and we will announce it to corps members through official channels.”

US President Donald Trump and his aides are weighing rules put in place to clamp down on countries whose nationals overstay short-term visitor visas. The effort would target countries whose national overstay their visas e.g Nigeria, Chad, Eritrea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The move will put those countries “on notice.” The new rule would also tell the countries’ governments that if their citizens continue to overstay their visa, then future visas could be shorter or harder to get. Nationals from such countries with high overstay rates could be barred entirely. Also on the agenda of the White House are other rules that would tighten student and investor visas. It is also pursuing preventing immigrants from coming or becoming citizens based on publicly funded benefits.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has just begun plans  on  recruiting 3,200 officers into the service. The announcement was made by the Acting Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resources Department, Umar Sanusi at a news conference in Abuja, NAN reports. According to Sanusi, 800 would be recruited to fill vacancies in the Support Staff for Superintendent Cadre Category, and 2,400 would fill that of Customs Inspector and Customs Assistant Cadre in the General Duty Categories. The service’s portal for the recruitment, www.vacancy.customs.gov.ng  opened 12 midnight of Tuesday and would be closed after three weeks. According to him, a web portal to receive and process all applications has been created as a sub-domain of the NCS website; www.customs.gov.ng. He said the portal “is a user-friendly one that prospective applicants from all parts of the country and even outside Nigeria can log in to submit applications and upload documents.
